A piece of a Patrick Stumph Interview / My Response

[Question]: Is this a recurring theme in the new songs?

[Patrick Stump]: "Definitely. I also have a song called "Love Selfish Love." You know, a lot of people ask me why I don't have a Twitter. It's sad that people really go out of their way to tell everyone everything about themselves. Our country has verbal diarrhea. It's really sad -- there's no mystery, no surprise. "Love Selfish Love" is just about that. It would be nice to go on a first date with somebody and not be able to know everything about them from their MySpace or Facebook profile. There's no first impressions anymore. You go to a job interview and they'll probably Google you. It's a shame -- people should play it a little closer to the chest as far as what information they release to the world. If I'm angry about something I'm not going to take to my Twitter. The whole record explores that idea. "

[My Response]: I've never looked at it that way. It is a shame we've lost our ability to communicate. the main way of communication for our generation is sms text. There is no emotion or personal contact with the arrival of a small message sent to your phone instead of a personal phone call.

Even in relationships, its more common to talk to one another via sms text than phone. I think that's horrible. It stunts the growth of the relationship. Yes it may be quicker to text but its cheaper to talk.

We've lost almost all ability to communicate; i.e. match.com, chemistry.com, eharmony.com etc. With all these dating sites doing all the work for us and sorting out the good from the bad, we develop a dependent relationship on dating sites. We lose our natural charisma in a sense because we're scared to go out there and too lazy to do what the online dating site does.
